Week 1: Small but Beautiful Beginnings!

This marks the first week of our share distributions for CSA members, and we're excited to reconnect with all of you. We take great pleasure in cultivating nutrient-rich local produce for you. Over the past five years, we've gained valuable insights into farming in Strasburg. The weather here is consistently unpredictable, with cold spells turning into extreme heat, and heat often followed by hail. Insects are relentless, showing a preference for our vegetables over pasture grass, flocking to our little slice of the Garden of Eden. And then there are the weeds! With Charlotte and me working full-time off the farm, only to return home and find weeds thriving, it's been exhausting trying to keep them at bay. We've decided to plant almost exclusively in landscape fabric to manage weeds and are using low tunnels with row cover to protect plants from heat and some insects. Although this requires more effort initially, the results have been outstanding! The vegetables boast beautiful, tender leaves and are thriving, shielded from harsh winds and the scorching afternoon sun. I'm sure you'll love it! The early weeks focus on greens—after all, who doesn't enjoy a fresh salad?

This week's harvest includes:

  • Spring onions

  • Mixed lettuce

  • Curly & Italian Parsley

  • Purple & Sweet Basil

  • Scallions

  • Eggs

We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday in front of Donna's The Gift Shop from 10am to 11:30am.
