I have been broad forking the beds while I get the garden ready for planting and have unearthed about 10 toads so far. These are great for our garden as I'm told they love to eat all the things I don't want in our garden like slugs, snails & insects. Hopefully they are discerning insect eaters and only eat the non-beneficial insects. They also aerate the soil as they dig in to hibernate.
This is also a good indicator of a healthy environment for our vegetables as the toads are very sensitive to chemicals. We work hard to keep our garden free of chemicals to ensure the healthiest produce.
Now if I can only figure out how to add the toads to the petting zoo...... See you soon.
